A CHORALE CHRISTMAS – December 17-20, 2011
The Phoenix Chorale celebrates the spirit of the holiday season with your favorite carols and selections from our new recording “Of A Rose.” You’ll hear Lo, How a Rose, How Far is it to Bethlehem?, Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day, and more. You’ll also hear four setting of O Magnum Mysterium - one each by René Clausen, Morten Lauridsen, Tomas Luis de Victoria, and Ola Gjeilo (including his Serenity: O Magnum Mysterium from our upcoming CD of his music) and more. CLASSICAL REVOLUTION PHOESTIVAL

Hosted by the Phoenix Chorale and presented by Classical Revolution Phoenix, the Classical Revolution Phoestival features multiple stages and a variety of chamber ensembles from brass quintet to woodwind ensembles to a demonstration of the Great Cathedral Organ at Trinity Cathedral and more! The Phoestival begins at 6:30 pm and takes place at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. Stages include Atwood Hall, the Cathedral, and in the upstairs Auditorium. MODERN RUSSIA – May 5-6, 2012
Our final concerts of the season will display the wonderful contrast of styles in the vast landscape of Russian choral music from the father of Russian classical music, Glinka, to 20th century composers including Stravinsky, Grechaninov, Sviridov, Pleshakov, and more. OLA GJEILO in Concert with Ted Belledin

Just added! The Phoenix Chorale presents a special performance featuring composer and pianist Ola Gjeilo with guests, saxophonist Ted Belledin and cellist Peter Anderegg. The concert features these two musicians in a duet creating new music – completely improvised on the spot.
Gjeilo and Belledin performed two of these concerts in 2010 during Gjeilo’s composer residency and Belledin is featured on the final track, “Evening Prayer,” of the Chorale’s new CD, Northern Lights. This is a rare and special treat – you won’t want to miss this concert!

IN TEACHING OTHERS WE TEACH OURSELVES

Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts
Just announced! Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts and Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) will present the world premiere of In Teaching Others We Teach Ourselves, a new work by composer Judd Greenstein. Commissioned by the Center and SMoCA in conjunction with the exhibition This is a Present from a Small Distant World, Judd Greenstein’s In Teaching Others We Teach Ourselves will feature violist Nadia Sirota along with a string quartet. Members of the Phoenix Chorale will perform a selection of other works by Greenstein on the program.
Tickets are $19 (students are free with valid student ID). Tickets can only be purchased from the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts by visiting www.ScottsdalePerformingArts.org or by calling 480-499-8587.
