So, I just got home from Phoenix Chorale rehearsal. It was a fun evening; not only were Danya’s break-time treats super delicious, but the music we were working on, for our upcoming concert “Amazing Grace,” is so much fun to sing!
We’re singing a whole bunch of old country gospel songs, bluegrass, shape note and spirituals. I grew up listening to old country and bluegrass music, groups like Barbara Mandrell & The Mandrell Sisters, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, The Gaither Vocal Band and The Statler Brothers. There are so many old family favorites on this concert, songs like3 “Down In The River To Pray,” “I’ll Fly Away,” and, of course, “Amazing Grace.” I’m really excited for my parents to be there because I know they’re are going to love it! (Actually, I just got off the phone with my dad, and my parents are bringing fifteen people with them to the Sunday afternoon concert!)
And the band – we’re having a bluegrass band play with us during the second half! How cool is that?! Fire Ridge is a local bluegrass band that holds the 2008 title for Arizona Bluegrass Band Champions! I went to their myspace page a few weeks ago to check them out. I recommend you do the same: www.myspace.com/fireridge.
Tonight we sang through all of the non-accompanied songs, and tomorrow Fire Ridge will join us. This will be the first (and only) rehearsal with them. I’m so excited; it’s going to be a blast!
What an amazing way to end the season!
