A Portrait of Composer Morten Lauridsen

“…a heartening rarity, a thoroughly intelligent classical-music program that strikes an appropriate balance between words and music.” – Terry Teachout, Wall Street Journal

The Phoenix Chorale and Scottsdale Musical Arts, in association with No Festival Required, have teamed up to present the Arizona premiere of Shining Night: A Portrait of Composer Morten Lauridsen.

This award-winning documentary by Michael Stillwater conveys the richness and breadth of the composer’s life and features a range of commentaries from composers and conductors around the world.

“We are pleased and honored to be the first in Arizona to present a screening of this film featuring Morten Lauridsen,  one of the truly great composers of our time,” said Charles Bruffy, Artistic Director of the Phoenix Chorale. “The Chorale always enjoys performing his music and we’re very much looking forward to sharing this film with our audiences.”

Hosted by KBAQ 89.5 FM’s Sterling Beeaff, the special presentation is co-sponsored by Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) and takes place on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the SMoCA Lounge (inside SMoCA).

Included with ticket: special tour of SMoCA at 6:30 pm with Assistant Curator Claire Carter and a post-screening party next door at AZ88 (show your ticket stub for drink specials and a free appetizer).
