Inspired by a line from e.e. cumming’s poem Anyone lived in a pretty how town, this recording brings together the creative force of poets and musicians on a theme of the heavens and what happens when they open. Featuring choral music by contemporary stars including Laura Mvula, Eric Whitacre, Dan Forrest and a newly-commissioned work by Dale Trumbore, the program celebrates the mystery and other-worldliness of the cosmos, together with the sweet release of rainfall and starlight. The poetry of Sara Teasdale, Octavio Paz, William Shakespeare, Lord Byron and Walt Whitman offer a beautiful commentary on these natural phenomena, creating a perfect marriage of music and text.

Friday 13th October performance in Mesa will feature a short set by the 12-voice Redlands University Vocal Chamber Ensemble, joined by Christopher Gabbitas.

Saturday 14th October performance at Trinity Cathedral will be followed by a sponsored wine reception in the Olney Gallery.

Phoenix Chorale returns for a new season with a live preview of our next album and a World Premiere by Dale Trumbore.

“What lies above directly affects every one of us, through provision of heat, light and water; our fascination with the celestial, and what falls from it, infuses this musical meditation and draws the listener into an immersive sound world, with the World Premiere of a brand-new piece commissioned from Chorale favorite composer Dale Trumbore “Little You, Looking Up” – Christopher Gabbitas
