Phoenix Chorale Unveils a Spring of Intimate Musical Experiences

Sacred Ritual and Seasonal Renewal Come to Life at Trinity Cathedral and the MIM Music Theater

This spring, Phoenix Chorale invites audiences into two deeply immersive listening experiences, each shaped by its setting and spirit. Chant and Polyphony performed March 21 and 22 at Trinity Cathedral in downtown Phoenix offers a sacred, contemplative journey through Holy Week, while BLOOM, a one-night-only performance on April 30, marks the Chorale’s debut at the Musical Instrument Museum. Together, these programs frame a season of intimate listening, from ancient chant and sacred polyphony to vibrant, spring-inspired choral works presented in acoustically resonant spaces.

Chant and Polyphony

Saturday, March 21 at 7:30 PM
Sunday, March 22 at 3:00 PM
Trinity Cathedral, 100 W. Roosevelt St., Phoenix
Guest ensemble: Floriani
Tickets: $47.50 adults, $41.50 senior/military, $22.50 youth

A contemplative journey through Holy Week, Chant and Polyphony weaves Gregorian chant, spoken meditations, and sacred choral works spanning five centuries. Featuring music by Giorgio Allegri, Pau Casals, Carlo Gesualdo, Marc’ Antonio Ingegneri, Antonio Lotti, Francis Poulenc, John Sanders, and more, the program unfolds as a ritual experience rather than a traditional concert.

Floriani, a vocal ensemble specializing in Gregorian chant and early sacred music, joins Phoenix Chorale for this evocative collaboration. Known for their raw, grounded sound and striking ensemble unity, Floriani approaches chant as a living, physical art form, bringing urgency and depth to some of the oldest music in the Western tradition.

Chant and Polyphony is not merely a concert but a ritual experience,” said Chris Gabbitas, Artistic Director of Phoenix Chorale. “A profound meditation on penitence and salvation that traces the emotional arc of Holy Week, moving between darkness and light. With chant and spoken meditations anchoring sacred works across centuries, and with Floriani adding mystery and grandeur as musicians move through the sacred space, the experience invites both performers and listeners to dwell in the space between human frailty and divine mercy.”

The program will also be performed in Tucson on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at 6:30 PM at St. Augustine Cathedral.

Phoenix Chorale makes its debut at the MIM Music Theater with BLOOM, a one-night-only program celebrating renewal, travel, and the joy of spring. A bouquet of ten singers from the Grammy-winning ensemble presents an exclusive program curated and conducted by Phoenix Chorale’s Assistant Conductor Tom Peterson.

The evening’s repertoire travels widely, from Shakespeare and e e Cummings to musical reflections inspired by China and the Scottish Highlands, alongside the drama of Italian madrigals and the lighthearted charm of English dances. Colorful, intimate, and richly expressive, BLOOM offers audiences a fresh way to experience Phoenix Chorale in one of the Valley’s most acoustically refined venues.

Tickets for BLOOM are available exclusively through the Musical Instrument Museum.
