KIRA ZEEMAN RUGEN is the Artistic Director of Solis – Choir of the Sun, a professional choir founded in 2011. She has prepared choirs for the Eagles, The Chieftains, Andrea Bocelli, Morten Lauridsen, and with the Phoenix Symphony for Final Fantasy, Zelda, and Game of Thrones directed by film composer Ramin Djawadi.
As a composer, Kira was recently named the third prize winner in Choral Composition with The American Prize and a semi-finalist with the Ernst Bacon Award for American Music. Notable 2021-22 performances/premieres include The Choral Project, Northwestern Oklahoma University State University Singers, Phoenix Boys Choir, CU Boulder choirs, Pinnacle Presbyterian church, Cor Cantiamo, Carolyn Eynon Singers and the Phoenix Chorale.
Kira has performed as a singer in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, at Durham University’s Norvis Early Music, Korea’s Incheon International Choral Festival, and with Anúna throughout Ireland, Japan and China. Kira is a choral and musical theatre faculty member at Scottsdale Community College. Previously, she served as Director of Choral Activities and musical theater at Arizona Christian University, music history/conducting/music education at Grand Canyon University, and choral faculty at Arizona State University.
Kira earned a BA in Vocal Performance and Choral Conducting from Weber State University, then a Master of Musicin Choral Education and a Doctorate in Choral Conducting at Arizona State University.
